In the 15th century, William Caxton wrote a collection of short stories called The Fyrste Booke of Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Foure Stories. In one of those stories, a young man is trying to decide whether he should marry the girl who loves him, or the girl’s sister. The first line of the story is “The tyme that I lay me downe to sleepe,” and immediately after that line is another line that poses one of Shakespeare’s best questions: “I can see you are a fine lady, but this boy is randy as a goat around you and it’s plain to see.
